Credit cards, you owe $50 at most

Federal law caps it at $50, and most card companies make it zero.

Debit cards, speed decides the cap

Within 2 days limits the loss to $50, within 60 days to $500, after that there is no cap. That is Regulation E. Quote it if you meet resistance, or file with the CFPB.

Ask the card company to reverse the charge. Billing disputes on a credit card run under Regulation Z.
